Pre-Departure Session
Accommodation, banking, SIM cards, weather, culture and campus life, covered before you board. Every departing student sits a full briefing tailored to their destination.
Before you fly
- Plan the route from the airport to your housing, and book university pickup early
- Check airline luggage rules, label your bags, keep essentials in carry on
- Carry originals or certified copies: passport, offer letter, visa, transcripts, prescriptions
- Attend orientation week; it is where enrolment, student ID and course registration happen
Settling in
- Open a bank account with your passport and local address; student fee waivers are common
- Get a local SIM and confirm your phone is unlocked before you leave Nepal
- Register with a doctor and understand how your health cover works
- Know your work limits: roughly 20 hours a week in the UK, 40 hours a fortnight in Australia
Culture shock is normal
Research the culture beforehand, bring a few familiar comforts, ask questions freely, join campus activities and connect with other international students. Universities run support services precisely for this, and so do we, even after you have landed.
